British manufacturer Bentley Motors founded on 1919. Since 1998, the company has been owned by the Volkswagen Group. In 1998, Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motors were purchased from Vickers (the owner since 1980) by Volkswagen Group for £430 million, following a bidding war with BMW. BMW had recently started supplying components for the new range of Rolls and Bentley cars.
Bentley sales in 2005 was 8,627 vehicle sold worldwide, 3,654 of which were sold in the United States. In 2007, for the first time in the company's history the 10,000 cars-per-year threshold was broken with sales of 10,014. For 2007, a record profit of €155 million was also announced.
